Environmental Sustainability Policy
KTY Design
1. Purpose At KTY Design, we recognize the critical importance of protecting our planet’s oceans and marine ecosystems. As a UX design company serving non-profits and small businesses, we commit to aligning our operations and design practices with the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water—to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.
2. Scope This policy applies to all employees, contractors, partners, and stakeholders involved in our operations, client work, and internal processes.
3. Guiding Principles We commit to: Minimizing environmental impact through sustainable digital and operational practices Promoting awareness of ocean conservation through our design work Supporting clients whose missions align with environmental and marine sustainability Continuously improving our sustainability performance through measurable actions
4. Sustainable Design Practices We integrate environmentally responsible practices into our UX design process by: Designing energy-efficient digital products that reduce data transfer, server load, and carbon emissions Prioritizing lightweight interfaces, optimized media, and efficient code structures Encouraging sustainable user behaviors through thoughtful design (e.g., reducing unnecessary consumption or waste) Advocating for accessibility and longevity in digital products to reduce the need for frequent redesigns
5. Responsible Operations We aim to reduce our operational footprint by: Operating as a remote-first or low-impact workplace to reduce commuting emissions Using energy-efficient devices and encouraging responsible hardware lifecycle management Partnering with vendors and tools that demonstrate environmental responsibility Reducing paper usage and prioritizing digital collaboration tools
6. Ocean and Marine Conservation Commitment In alignment with Life Below Water, we: Prioritize partnerships with non-profits and organizations working to protect oceans, waterways, and marine biodiversity Offer discounted or pro bono services to qualifying environmental organizations when feasible Incorporate educational elements into projects that raise awareness of marine conservation issues Avoid partnerships that contribute to ocean pollution, overfishing, or marine ecosystem degradation
7. Waste and Resource Management We commit to: Minimizing electronic waste through repair, reuse, and responsible recycling of equipment Avoiding single-use plastics in any physical operations or company events Supporting circular economy principles where possible
8. Employee Engagement and Culture We encourage our team to: Participate in sustainability initiatives, including local cleanups or conservation efforts Stay informed about environmental issues, particularly those affecting oceans and waterways Contribute ideas to improve our sustainability practices
9. Monitoring and Accountability We will: Set annual sustainability goals and review progress regularly Track key metrics such as energy usage, digital efficiency, and client impact Transparently share our sustainability efforts with stakeholders
10. Continuous Improvement We recognize that sustainability is an ongoing journey. We are committed to regularly reviewing and updating this policy to reflect evolving best practices, technologies, and environmental needs.
11. Approval and Review This policy is reviewed annually and approved by company leadership to ensure alignment with our mission and global sustainability goals.
